The weather now and next week >>> El Tiempo en Garachico
There is hardly a more pleasant climate in Europe than the Canary Islands in general and the north coast of Tenerife in particular. Two air pressure areas are responsible for this balanced climate with an average temperature of 21º C: the trade winds coming from the high pressure areas of the Azores and the warm airflow from the neighboring Sahara desert. Together they keep the temperature in a permanent balance.
Of course, the temperatures also depend on the altitude. In summer it can be warmer in the mountains than at the sea. In winter, however, one calculates 1 degree less per 100 meters of altitude difference. That would be at 20º C on the coast- 15º C at 500 meters altitude. When there is snow on the Teide, in the dead of winter, it is often possible to swim in the sea on the sunny coast. After the first overcoming and the movement, it is not too cold.
The north can be cloudy. Because the constant trade winds usually come from the north-east, clouds form and then accumulate in front of the long ridge that runs from the Anaga to the Teno mountains. We owe the drinking water and vegetation to the Passat. Punta de Teno in the northwest, the south side of the island and Las Cañadas with the Pico del Teide of 3718 vertical meters, are quite sun-safe. |
